Students who study a subject on six short evenings remember far more than those who cram the night before. In one test, two groups of university juniors learned the same fifty words. A month later, the spaced group recalled 68 percent; the crammers recalled only 29 percent.
Cramming is not useless. It can rescue a student on the morning of an exam. The problem is that the words vanish almost as fast as they arrive.

A senior high school asked its 300 graduates what they planned to do after leaving.
| Plan | Class of 2023 | Class of 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| University | 62% | 55% |
| Technical college | 18% | 25% |
| Work at once | 12% | 11% |
| Study abroad | 8% | 9% |
Every graduate answered, and no one chose more than one plan. The school will repeat the survey in 2027.
