Tablets in the Classroom
Two years ago our school started a digital reading plan and gave a 11 to every student. The change was not easy. Should Children Learn to Code?
Ten years ago few primary schools taught children to write code. Today many of them do, and parents often ask whether the subject is worth the class time.
Teachers who support it say the aim is not to produce programmers. Writing a simple program forces a child to break a large problem into small steps and to test each step in a systematic way, a habit that helps in every subject.
Critics reply that technology changes so fast that today's language will be useless by the time these students leave school. Both sides agree on one point, though: a class of thirty children and one broken computer teaches nobody anything.
