Passage 1
More Than Just Calories
Most shoppers look at the price first, but the label on the side of the box tells a longer story, and reading it takes only a few seconds. It lists every 11 the food contains, from fat and sugar to salt. A bowl of whole 12 such as brown rice or oats releases energy slowly, while beans and fish supply the 13 that muscles need to repair themselves. Fresh fruit adds 14 C, which the body cannot store for long. Nutritionists warn that a spoonful of 15 poured over breakfast can undo much of the good work.

ARTICLE
Why Whole Grains Fill You Up
White rice and white bread are easy to digest, which sounds like good news. In fact, food that leaves the stomach quickly also leaves the eater hungry again within an hour.
Whole grains behave differently. Because the outer layer stays on, digestion takes longer and sugar enters the blood slowly. A study in Japan found that office workers who ate brown rice at noon ate about 15 percent less at dinner.
Nutritionists add one warning: whole grains are not a magic cure. A bowl covered in sugar or syrup loses most of its advantage.

AIt makes the eater hungry again soon
BIt contains no sugar at all
CIt costs too much
DIt is difficult to cook

BWorkers ate less at dinner
CWorkers showed a remarkable rise in energy
DWorkers slept much better
✔ 正確答案:(B) Workers ate less at dinner

BOnly athletes need whole grains
CBrown rice is bad for the stomach

A Question for the Butcher
Dear Mr. Ramos,
Thank you for the lamb chops you delivered on Friday. My guests said the flesh was tender and the flavor was excellent.
I am planning a dinner for eighteen people on 12 November and would like to order again. This time I need cuts that are lower in fat, because two of my guests are on a strict diet.
Could you also tell me whether you sell bones for soup? If so, please add four kilos.
I will collect everything myself on the morning of the 12th, so no delivery is needed.
